ATRI Elects LaCourse New Board Chairman

The board of directors of Alfred Technology Resources, Inc., (ATRI), Alfred, NY announced the election of Dr. William LaCourse, as chairman for a three year term ending June 30, 2011. LaCourse is a Professor of Glass Science, Interim Statutory Unit Head, and Kruson Distinguished Director of Glass Science at Alfred University. In addition to LaCourse’s professorship at Alfred University, he is also founder and president of Santanoni Glass and Ceramics, Inc. LaCourse has a long history of awards and achievement in the area of glass science and is well-recognized for accomplishments in his field. The awards include the George W. Morey Award for contributions to the field of Glass Science in 2007 and the New York State Research Foundation Award for Innovative Research in 2002.

ATRI operates the Ceramics Corridor Innovation Centers (CCIC) program, a nationally recognized, dual-facility business incubation program with locations in Alfred and Painted Post, NY. The program has been credited with assisting in the creation of over two dozen businesses and more than 2,500 jobs in the area during the past ten years and is dedicated to expansion, research & development, and job creation in the ceramics, glass, advanced materials, and materials science technologies in the Southern Tier Region of New York State. Currently, fifteen companies are incubating their businesses and/or conducting research and development activities in the two program facilities.

Jon Wilder, CCIC executive director, stated that he was looking forward to working with LaCourse in his new role as Chairman on plans for the future encompassing development of new technology transfer programs and projects.

Wilder also stated that, “Business incubation is about growing both jobs and commercially successful applications—turning ideas into viable products and services. It is important to emphasize that there is no better place for research and development and start-up projects than in the dedicated facilities of proven business incubators. It is an environment where an idea or concept can be carefully nurtured, while remaining focused on the ultimate goal of transferring the technology to the marketplace.”
