Ceramics Corridor Incubation Program is Granted $1 Million through New York State Senate

September 2008

Alfred Technology Resources, Inc. (ATRI) was recently awarded $1,000,000 in grant funds through New York State. The majority of the funds are slated for the establishment of a NanoMaterials lab at their business incubation facility, located in Alfred, NY.  A portion of the grant funds is also slated for capital improvements for both the Alfred facility and Painted Post facilities.

ATRI operates the Ceramics Corridor Innovation Centers (CCIC) program, a nationally recognized, dual-facility business incubation program with locations in Alfred and Painted Post.  The program has been credited with assisting in the creation of two dozen businesses and over 2,000 jobs in the area during the past ten years.  Currently, 15 companies are operating within the two buildings.

Jon Wilder, CCIC executive director, stated that the NanoMaterials Lab would enable new opportunities to partner with both academia and industry.  Wilder said he was looking forward to working with New York State’s world-renowned materials science and engineering sources from academic institutions such as Alfred University, Alfred State College, and Clarkson University in developing plans for the future to encompass assisting new and developing technology transfer programs and projects.

Wilder also stated that, “The positive impact realized through R&D, business start-ups and jobs created within the Innovation Centers play an important role within our region and New York State.  Senator Young’s unwavering political and financial support has been a key component in realizing this important goal. “

He concluded stating that, “Business incubation is about growing both jobs and commercially successful applications—turning ideas into viable products and services. It is important to emphasize that there is no better place for research and development and start-up projects than in the dedicated facilities of proven business incubators. It is an environment where an idea or concept can be carefully nurtured, while remaining focused on the ultimate goal of transferring the technology to the marketplace.”
